Reigate, Dorking and Caterham

Situated on the edge of the North Downs Reigate, Dorking and Caterham are bordered by the River Mole and the Surrey hills. Much of the landscape is owned by the National Trust including Leith Hill and Box Hill, a site of special scientific interest.

Reigate has been a settlement since Roman times, although the town was really only established following construction of its castle in the 12th Century. The castle was later demolished but the gardens remain open to the public as do the caves beneath it which are occasionally opened for tours.

Nearby Dorking has retained much of its charm despite developing a thriving shopping centre and new leisure and entertainment complex complete with cinema and theatre. Nearby Wisley gardens is the world famous headquarters of the Royal Horticultural Society and open to the public throughout the year.
